Criteria were established to classify said effectiveness based on the findings of each study. Analysis and integration of information: The population used was 1,735 patients, distributed among the populations of the seven studies included. Six of seven selected articles positively impacted the effectiveness of cardiac rehabilitation. The results reduced mortality, heart rate, and blood pressure, among other aspects, for a better quality of life. Conclusion: The review reveals generally positive results. Significant improvements in patients' quality of life are noted, and supervised exercises offer more benefits than those performed at home, highlighting the importance of professional monitoring.
2025-01-31T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Fabiola Luen Aguilar, Jorge Escobar Barrios, Carlos Rafael Araujo Inastrilla (Autor/a) https://editorial.udv.edu.gt/index.php/RCMV/article/view/465 Quality of the Editorial Management of the Cuban Journal of Health Technology 2024-12-30T18:12:46+00:00 Briana Lauren Soret Espinosa soretbrianalauren@gmail.com Jean Marcos Nápoles de la Torre jeannt@infomed.sld.cu Mayelin Llosa Santana mayellosa@infomed.sld.cu Carlos Rafael Araujo Inastrilla araujo.inastrilla@gmail.com Dayami Gutiérrez Vera dayamigvera@infomed.sld.cu Yanetsi García Savón yanetg@infomed.sld.cu
Introduction: the quality indicators of a scientific journal express processes of necessary rigor towards what is published. Objective: to describe the quality of the editorial management of the scientific journals of the Revista Cubana de Tecnología de la Salud. Methods: a descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out on the quality of the editorial management of the journal, in the year 2023. The analysis was carried out based on a list of indexing criteria of the Redalyc Scientific Information System. Results: a total of 60 criteria were analyzed. Of these, the journal meets 100% in the Basic Admission Criteria category. However, in the Qualitative and Highly Valued Criteria, there was a group of criteria that were not met. In ''Qualitative Criteria'', the journal fulfills 88.9% of the criteria, and in ''Highly Valued Qualitative Criteria'' the fulfillment is 90.91%. Conclusions: the quality of the journal's editorial management was described. The results obtained show a high efficiency in the editorial process, with review and publication times that are within international standards.
2025-01-31T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Briana Lauren Soret Espinosa, Jean Marcos Nápoles de la Torre , Mayelin Llosa Santana , Carlos Rafael Araujo Inastrilla , Dayami Gutiérrez Vera , Yanetsi García Savón (Autor/a) https://editorial.udv.edu.gt/index.php/RCMV/article/view/496 Clinical and laboratory findings in surgical intestinal obstruction in adults 2025-01-12T23:16:45+00:00 Alvaro Sontay alvarojosue.sontaysantamaria@gmail.com Hugo San-José-Medina hugosjemdina@gmail.com
Introduction: Surgical intestinal obstruction is a frequent cause of acute abdomen in emergency services due to its multiple etiologies. It presents variable clinical manifestations and delays in diagnosis. Establishing a diagnosis is crucial to deciding between conservative treatment or surgical resolution. Objective: To identify the frequent clinical and laboratory aspects in patients with surgical intestinal obstruction. Methods: A clinical records review of patients between 19 and 70 years old admitted to the Regional Hospital of Cobán general surgery emergency service from June 2023 to March 2024 was conducted. Descriptive statistics and the Chi-square test were used to determine significant associations. Results: Of the total number of patients, 73% were diagnosed with surgical intestinal obstruction. The most frequent clinical findings included cramping abdominal pain (100%), abdominal distension (87%), leukocytosis >10,000 (87%), vomiting (74.1%), and digital rectal examination without stool (72.2%). Variables such as abdominal distension, absence of gastrointestinal sounds, hypokalemia, and leukocytosis >10,000 were statistically significant (p<0.05). Conclusions: The identified clinical and laboratory variables are essential for the early diagnosis of surgical intestinal obstruction, especially in resource-limited settings where advanced diagnostic tools are not always available.
2025-05-26T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Alvaro Sontay, Hugo San-José-Medina (Autor/a) https://editorial.udv.edu.gt/index.php/RCMV/article/view/497 Indicators of care quality for critically ill maternal patients in a secondary care hospital 2025-01-26T17:37:45+00:00 Idalberto Creagh-Bandera icreaghbandera@yahoo.com Yanet del Carmen Pérez-Ferreiro ypferreiro@infomed.sld.cu Reinaldo Elias Sierra relias@infomed.sld.cu
Introduction: Quality control of obstetric care is a social requirement. Objective: To evaluate the quality of medical care for women with highly severe maternal morbidity at Dr. Agostinho Neto Hospital from 2015-2022. Method: A descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out. 976 exits from this institution were studied. Those for whom it was impossible to compile all the necessary information were excluded (n = 6). The study of the variable "quality of the medical care process for patients with extremely severe maternal morbidity" was structured in three dimensions: a) structure, b) process, and c) outcomes. Results: The structure and results dimensions were rated "partially satisfactory," with 81.8% of the indicators for each dimension falling into this category. The process dimension was rated "satisfactory," with 87.5% of the indicators assessed in this category. Overall, the quality of medical care was rated "partially satisfactory," with 83.3% of the indicators assessed in this category. Conclusions: At Dr. Agostinho Neto Hospital, during the period 2015-2022, the quality of medical care for pregnant or postpartum women with extremely severe maternal morbidity is partially satisfactory, although it is affected by limitations in material resources to provide excellent care.
2025-04-17T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Idalberto Creagh-Bandera, Yanet del Carmen Pérez-Ferreiro, Reinaldo Elias Sierra (Autor/a) https://editorial.udv.edu.gt/index.php/RCMV/article/view/490 Multiple intrabdominal fibromatosis: finding during appendectomy. Case report 2024-12-26T21:53:47+00:00 Iván Baigorría Ortega ivanbo1972@gmail.com
A male patient with mixed skin, 32 years old, with a health history, was seen in the Surgical Guard Corps of the Hospital Héroes del Baire, Isla de la Juventud, Cuba, due to acute abdominal pain, which was interpreted as acute appendicitis and underwent emergency surgery. An appendectomy was performed. During the intraoperative finding, an irregularly shaped, mamelonating tumor was found in the mesentery of the terminal ileum and alleged multiple tumor "seeds" in the greater omentum. The primary tumor and the greater omentum were resected and sent for biopsy, which reported the diagnosis: multiple intra-abdominal fibromatosis. The patient had a satisfactory post-surgical evolution.
2025-01-31T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Iván Baigorría Ortega (Autor/a) https://editorial.udv.edu.gt/index.php/RCMV/article/view/498 Case report of symptomatic giant liver hemangioma treated with embolization 2025-01-31T16:04:38+00:00 Ydileidis Pérez Nariño ydileidispn@gmail.com Gresin Samón-Adelis gresinsamonadelis@gmail.com Mayda Cisneros-Rubalcaba gresinsamonadelis@gmail.com
Hemangiomas measuring 10 cm or larger are known as giant hemangiomas. They can cause symptoms such as pain and manifestations of an inflammatory reaction syndrome and coagulopathy; in these cases, they require treatment ranging from endovascular therapies to open surgery. Imaging studies estimate a prevalence of around 5%, but up to 20% values have been reported in autopsy series. They are often solitary and small, although they can reach up to 20 cm in diameter. A case of hepatic hemangioma with a 15-year history of development was presented. Following COVID-19 infection, the patient complained of abdominal pain in the right hypochondrium. Imaging studies showed a significant increase in size and atypical ultrasound findings. The patient was treated with embolization, showing a reduction in size and favorable outcome.
2025-05-26T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Ydileidis Pérez Nariño, Gresin Samón-Adelis2, Mayda Cisneros-Rubalcaba (Autor/a) https://editorial.udv.edu.gt/index.php/RCMV/article/view/499 The Importance of the International Accreditation of the Physician and Surgeon Program 2025-01-31T00:47:10+00:00 Guillermo Antonio Chávez-Meza gchavez@udv.edu.gt
The Faculty of Medical and Life Sciences of the Universidad Da Vinci de Guatemala is proud to announce the start of the international accreditation process for the Bachelor's Degree Physician and Surgeon Program.
