Results and challenges of the Research Unit of the Faculty of Medical and Life Sciences, May 2022-December 2023

Abstract
Introduction: The Research Unit within the Faculty of Medical and Life Sciences is essential to its academic mission and its contribution to society. By fostering research, a university can advance knowledge, improve educational quality, promote innovation, and maintain a reputation for academic excellence.
Objective: To analyze the results and challenges of the Research Unit since its creation.
Method: An analysis of the functions and work outcomes of the three subordinate areas was conducted, using methods at the theoretical level.
Results: The results achieved during the first year and a half of operation are presented following the implementation of the Research Unit in the Faculty of Medical and Life Sciences at the Universidad Da Vinci de Guatemala, across its three areas: research coordination, thesis coordination, and scientific dissemination. Challenges to be considered for achieving better results are identified. Emphasis is placed on the role of young people in university research. The journal’s annual rejection rate is 75%, an indicator that falls within the range of other international journals. A total of 90 research protocols have been approved, and 68 theses have been defended.
Conclusions: After analyzing the operation of the Research Unit across its three coordination areas, encouraging results were found, reflecting the significant amount of work carried out during the period analyzed, and the challenges to be addressed in the medium and long term were identified.
