Relevance of an educational strategy on the prevention of non-communicable diseases in health promoters

Abstract
Introduction: Non-communicable diseases represent one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in Guatemala. In the municipality of Morales, Izabal, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes mellitus, and chronic kidney disease have shown a progressive increase, requiring community-based prevention strategies. Objective: To assess the relevance of an educational strategy for the development of health promoters in the prevention of non-communicable diseases in Morales, Izabal. Method: A qualitative study was conducted, consulting research by authors addressing the same object of study published in scientifically backed platforms such as PubMed, Scopus, SciELO, Web of Science, and Google Scholar, among others, within the 2020-2025 period. Results: The systematization of the literature identified three central categories: a) appropriation of knowledge in preventive health, b) strengthened community leadership, and c) challenges for the sustainability of the promoter's role. The evidence presented in some strategies reflected a positive perception of the educational strategy, highlighting the usefulness of participatory workshops and the importance of institutional support. An educational strategy for the development of health promoters for the prevention of non-communicable diseases was defined. Conclusions: The systematization performed showed that the educational strategy in the utilized environments favored the empowerment of health promoters, who recognized their role as agents of change in the prevention of this group of diseases.
